Just thinking about the prompt “retired goldfish” makes me imagine a future where my catfish are as precious as gold. I am a catfish breeder, and I sometimes get to see my fingerlings achieve maturity. Fish are a unique creature found in a unique environment. They live and breathe in water, while we humans are unable to survive in their habitat.
They are a good source of income and protein as they are edible. After experiencing the life of an 8-5 worker and as a catfish farmer, I prefer being a catfish farmer, as I am my own boss. It's my retirement plan that started early and would end with me swimming in gold, that is, my retired goldfish, as no matter how tired gold is, it would still retain its value. My retired goldfish might be black in color but I know their weight in gold.
