I had already sourced good female and male broodstocks, and in fact, there had been some confirmation that they are good stocks. I decided to purchase the females from two different farms, and this was to increase the production rate.
On getting home, the pond was not cleaned, so I decided to clean it and start preparing for another production. I had recently run water analysis so I could know both the chemical and biological components of my water. I had remembered when I was asked what the question; What’s your water pH, and I was unable to answer.
But currently, I have collected my lab results online, and the result had informed me that my pH was low and the water hardness were low. I was also given their treatment, so I was able to get the required chemicals to add (Sodium Bicarbonate and Calcium Chloride).
The night before the spawning, I had collected a scale from my neighboor and it enabled me to be able to measure the chemical usage. After measuring, both quantities were added to the reservoir tank. Yesterday morning, about 9 am, each of the female broodstocks was stripped for her eggs into a plastic container, and even the male broodstock had his sperm sac removed.
The Male sperm cells were added to the containers containing the stripped eggs, and then they were spread on the nets inside the ponds. This method was repeated until there was nothing left. The pond was closed tightly so it could generate some forms of heat for the ggs.
After waiting for more than 24 hours, I noticed that there was little or no hatching at all, and this got me tired immediately because it means I need to source new broodstocks. I decided to wait till this evening, and still no hatching. So I decided to flush the pond and prepare for another hatching.
Hatching is not for the weak, and staying consistent is the goal, but for now, “make I go find money**. I am really down today but currently having an inner conversation within myself to stay strong.
