I have been trying to find the name for this plant for such a long time and I could never ID it properly. I was just calling it Ice plant since it is very similar to the ones I have (proper name is Delosperma).
And then today I went to the supermarket with a nice garden section to get some cacti supplies and orchid pots and would you look at that! They had it. And it was even tagged!
Drosanthemum
Yep, that is the name. And now I will not lose it. It will be saved in the blockchain forever!! muahaha
I got this plant few years ago as a little bunch of cuttings from a seller. I bough some plants and she sent me those as a gift. And I gotta say - I love it! It is so easy to grow and it grows really fast! I tucked the unrooted stems in two pots and they grow in them ever since. One I let grow as long as it wants and it kind of crawls around the balcony fence. It looks lovely when it starts to bloom!
The other ones is in a taller pot so the stems drip down, but I have to cut it down few times a year, or they will take over the floor too. And that way I have even more free cuttings which I just give away.
There is another very cool feature about it.
The bubbly texture on the leaves!
The leaves and the bubbles are very small and if I look at them just in regular way I don't see the bubble. But the leaves have this silvery look. There is another plants - Livingstone Daisy that has that texture too. But the leaves are a lot bigger and when you touch them it feel like they are made of silicone. Pretty cool!
Even the buds are protected by the bubble wrap.
I will need to trim it again this week and already have a person that will get some cuttings. The rest I will probably pot in new soil and let it grow.
Such fun plant!
