I am not sure what those snails are plotting there. Every year I see them stuck all together on the fences, electric poles, some gaps in trees.
It is surely to overwinter, but lots of those shells is empty. Are they actually able to survive like this?
Or is it some kind of group suicidal action?
I saw those while walking along a long and quite old fence. Dozens and dozens of those wooden poles and every single one had dozens and dozens of snail shells attached. On some I saw snails still crawling up.
And then under the fence and the poles on the ground dozens and dozens of empty, broken shells.
Of course I didn't think of shooting that anymore. The ones high up were more interesting... but one day I will (I hope).
And when there are no fences around, they will climb up on the tallest plants around. Like here -> full post
