Myakolitsa is a geological outcrop on the Sukhona River. A distinctive feature of this place from the other steep banks on this river is that sand lenses are distinguished among the rocks of the Permian period.
I have heard about this place for a long time, but I didn’t dare to get to it. I was frightened by the inaccessibility and, as it turned out, in vain - from the road, where you need to leave the car, to the river Sukhona is only three and a half kilometers. If it were not for the wild heat that day, the path to the destination would have seemed even easier.
The very first impression arises after the forest road, when a steep bank of the river appears from behind the bushes. Immediately enthusiastic "Oooooh!".
And here are the sandstone lenses! It's look not very impressive at first glance. But wait, let's get closer!
The banks of the Sukhona throughout the entire course are predominantly rocky.
The height of the coast reaches seventy meters. Everywhere is scree.
A cherished place is already very close. From the intense heat it is necessary from time to time to wash up in the river.
The river bank is so high that my 17 mm focal length can not cope. It seems as if instead of "width" is wearing a "portrait".
From afar, it all seemed close so huge that it caught my breath.
How strong is the optical illusion! The closer to the “pillars of weathering,” the bigger they seem.
It is so huge that I could not even reach out with my hand to touch the antiquity. After all, these rocks are more than 250 million years old.
But I still managed to climb higher and touch it - this is ordinary pressed sand!
Just recently a huge piece broke off.
But under it can be traces of various ancient animals. Who knows what has been hidden from human eyes for a long time.
Sand is much more susceptible to the effects of gravity and weather phenomena, so the forms of exposure here change very quickly.
The bottom of the river looks like a limestone slab.
It's just some other planet! No, it's still our Earth! But how amazing it is!!!

In the summer of Sukhona is a quiet and calm river. The flow is so weak that it is sometimes difficult to determine which way it is flowing.
But in the spring during an ice drift the river can destroy anything on its way!

Wildlife leaves its footprints. Birds build nests, and people leave inscriptions.

...Coming back. My heart feels sad and at the same time oversaturated with impressions. It is good that Myakolitsa’s geological outcrop is not very far away and I can come here more than once. I would even say that I really want to come back here again!
On the way back, I noticed a dried up stream that flows out of the forest only in spring.
