I did this set of naked picture two days ago, titled Female Form and this is an extra picture from that set. I was testing different lightings before I settled on using just one light to give me a very striking silhouette. I did end up liking this one picture from my first test where I'm reaching towards the ceiling lamp, but it didn't go with the other pictures because of the different light so I saved it for later.
I always talk about using available light, preferably natural light, but every once in a while I actually move things around to try and get interesting lighting conditions. It's something I really need to practise more because it's already getting pretty dark here in Finland and the next six months at least will be so damn dark that using only natural light is really not even an option.
I am actually considering ordering proper lights that are meant for filming, Red Heads with barn doors, which sound like it has nothing to do with film or photography. When my friend who is a pro photographer started to talk to me about lights, at first I didn't even understand what he was talking about, with all that industry slang I have no knowledge of. I am such an amateur.
For the life of me I can't understand why flash is a thing, I'd much rather have a light that stays on, so I can actually see what I'm doing, not just guess and try over and over again. With these type of lights, I think I could learn how to take some pretty awesome film noir-style portraits, which are my favourite type to do. They are so beautiful, dynamic and alluring. Though I am afraid that if I get these lights, next I'll be clearing up my living room from all other furniture and building a studio out of it. Moderation has never been my strong suit...
