PSALM 121:1
I will lift up my eyes to the hills, from whence cometh my help. Vs. 1
FOCAL SCRIPTURE
2 CHRONICLES 20:1-4
It came to pass after this also, that the children of Moab, and the children of Ammon, and with them other beside the Ammonites, came against Jehoshaphat to battle. Vs. 1
Then there came some that told Jehoshaphat, saying, There cometh a great multitude against thee from beyond the sea on this side Syria; and, behold, they be in Hazazontamar, which is Engedi. Vs. 2
And Jehoshaphat feared, and set himself to seek the Lord, and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah. Vs. 3
And Judah gathered themselves together, to ask help of the Lord: even out of all the cities of Judah they came to seek the Lord. Vs. 4
When the three powerful kings decided to invade Judah, Jehoshaphat set his face to seek God and immediately went into a fast. His fear did not push him away from God but more towards God. His fear did not make him to abandon God but to cling tightly to Him.
We all get scared at some point in our life, but the crucial question is; HOW DO YOU HANDLE YOUR FEAR?
Most times we might be threatened by some enemies or situations like it happened to king Jehoshaphat but we should not let our fear lead us to try ungodly alternatives.
I remember in the year 2017 when my mum came to my house only to tell me that her sister said that I was going to die, I did not waste time to respond to her by telling her to tell her sister that it won’t be the one to die but I shall live to declare the works of God in my life but if I die, it actually means it is the will of God for my life. I was angered in the spirit for such and I prayed and I am still living till today.
So many times we are confronted with such issues as that but how we respond to it matters a lot. Do you run from one place to another looking for a hiding place when you already have someone who can hide you under the shadow of His wings.
When King Jehoshaphat was afraid, he lifted up his eyes to the hills from where his help comes from. When men threatened David, he said he will fear no man because God is light.
PSALMS 27:1
The Lord is my light and my salvation whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life of whom shall I be afraid?Vs. 1
In fact, when he had a close contact with death he said;
PSALMS 23:4
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Vs. 4
Because he is confident of God’s abiding presence, he is comforted right in the midst of danger. When you are afraid and you look up to the hills from when cometh your help, you would be comforted.
The best way to handle or respond to fear is by seeking the face of God. When you are afraid, it doesn't mean God is not with you, it actually means He wants you to experience life and learn to look up to Him for help.
Nothing can give you confidence of safety or security in the midst of fear as much as the Lord.
