She Can Take It
Every misplaced expletive and passive insult,
Each aimless collision with abuse,
She can take it.
A signature fake smile put on for house guests,
And a shallow answer for worried family,
She can fake it.
The lonely night lying next to a cold body,
Frozen in grief and waiting for sunrise,
She can make it.
Her nervous hand brushing her child's hair
As she makes her way into the courthouse,
She will change it.
