It was during one of the most exhausting periods of my life that I finally realized something important medication is not always the answer.

For a long time, I was always at the clinic. One week it was headaches, the next it was body pain, and sometimes I even felt dizzy for no reason. I was constantly collecting prescriptions and swallowing pills. I had drugs for sleeping, drugs for energy, and even vitamins I didn’t understand. I thought it was the right thing to do to visit the hospital when you feel restless or see any symptoms.

Most times medication would work but only for few days and after some days it would come back heavily, I remember a time when I was feeling so exhausted and dizzy, I visited the hospital and I was giving some antibiotics, this leads to another problem in me, the antibiotics gave me some infections that I had to treat with huge of money.

Then one day, I was talking to my cousin sister who is a doctor, I explained everything to her and she looked at me and said I should show her my test results because I have them on my phone, After checking the lab results she then told me that “You are not sick. You are stressed. You need rest, not more drugs.”

She said I only need to rest and eat lots of vegetables and fruits to get back to normal, She laughed and said not everything I need medication for, At first when she laughed, I thought she was joking. I said how can rest cure what these strong drugs couldn’t fix?

That evening when we departed and I got home, I gave her better advice, I got some fruits and vegetables, I started eating more of it and taking enough rest, also I worked on my sleep. I used to stay awake past midnight, pressing my phone or just lying down with a heavy mind. Now, I forced myself to sleep earlier. I turned off my phone by 9 p.m. and tried to sleep by 10. In the first week, I slept like a baby, it was the first time in a long while that I woke up without a headache. I now prioritize my well-being because I do not want to be visiting and wasting my money on medications.

One of the things I do not like to do is walk, I'm very lazy at doing exercise but then I started doing exercises by walking through my area in the evening because I wanted to feel the fresh air and be more light-weighted, this helped me in getting myself back and stop complaining about any medical issues like headaches and the likes.

Also, another thing that helped me was my mindset, I do not know that negative thinking can make the body sick, I'm always overthinking and worrying myself about what I can never control. So I started talking to myself more kindly. I said things affirmatively and I stopped thinking less about myself.

Within one month, I couldn’t believe the difference. The headaches reduced. I had more energy. I wasn’t feeling dizzy anymore. I started laughing more and waking up happy. And guess what? I hadn’t taken a single pill in all that time.

Though medication is very important, there are times when you must take it but I now understand that not all healing comes from a pharmacy. Sometimes, what we truly need is peace, rest, clean food, and a little exercise.
