At the head of this army stood a small, noble, black ant, easily recognized by his red velvet overcoat. He was a familiar silhouette to this army, and he carried a large golden crown upon his head. He was respected by his followers, and they would do anything he demanded. He was their first leader, and he was the expert at gathering food for them to eat. He led them through the sweltering jungle floor and up a steep hill, where they were to hide and wait for their purpose to be completed. Upon reaching the top of the hill, he was surprised to see many more ants, as well as a man in a cowboy hat. The biggest thing this surprised him about was the absence of the army’s queen.
From the trees, the ants viewed the cowboy with befuddlement. He was an oddity to them. He seemed to be a strange, one-eyed man; he also spoke to them. He asked them to join him in his scheme. They refused to associate with the man. They would not go along with his plan. It all seemed ridiculous to them. It seemed like the cowboy would support their scheme, so they decided to at least hear the rest of his plan.
“Look,” he said, “there’s no way you’ll stand a chance against them on your own. You need us, the bees, to win. We’ll do all the heavy lifting. We’ll take the major risk.”
“What do you mean?” the ant questioned.
“We will go up against the enemy by ourselves and attack them.” The man said.
“But how?”
“I know another way to defeat them,” he responded, “that’s all I’ll say for now. I’ll tell you more when all of this is over.”
The queen’s message had gone out to the rest of the army to reside up top. “Come up and see what I have to show you,” the queen said.
Deposited at the top of the hill was a mound of fruit, almost like a pile of oranges. The ants that inhabited it came out and bowed down to the queen.
“Come here!” The queen said.
As they walked up to the queen, she stood behind the pile of fruit.
“Tell them what it is.” She said to the man.
“It’s a trap for the bees!”
The ants looked at the pile of fruit and began to get excited.
“Why do you use this fruit?” One of the ants asked.
“There’s no other way to entice the bees.” the man said.
“Wait, so why do we support you? We can’t directly oppose the bees, and all of this could be a waste of time.” The ant said.
The man began to explain his plan to them. “We attack the bees from the backside, when we’re most vulnerable. We go out and attract the bees away from the bee hive, then follow me down a weak spot in your pit. The two holes are directly across from each other on opposite sides of the hive, as you can see.” The man said, pointing to the hive.
