I have been MIA all weekend.
It has been a crazy weekend, I miss reading blog posts, commenting, and engaging with the amazing writers here on hive but the break was very much needed, impromptu but needed.
Here’s how my weekend started
I woke up on Friday morning feeling pains all over my tummy, assumed it was from the large bowl of fruit salad I had the night before so I ignored it, it was children’s day and I decided to have a jolly day with my son and his playgroup friends. The pain went away after a few visits to the restroom and I was fine.
my sweet boy
Saturday was here and I had a lot planned, a project to complete, online classes to attend, and a team assessment to participate in. But Saturday started rough, the pain returned intensely with severe body ache, fever, and headache. I was so cold and in pain. My baby was still asleep and I know if he woke up I need to feed, bathe him, and attend to his needs but I won't be able to because of how I was feeling.
I have been living alone since my husband has been out of the country. I have been coping fine till reality hit me that I need someone to care for me too as much as I think I could do it alone.
Thank Goodness for an amazing mother-in-law, my partner reaches out to her after we spoke. She lives on the other side of town and in a few hours she was at my doorstep.
She was all dressed and ready to go for a wedding when she received the message and had to forfeit the wedding to come to help me.
She helped get my baby ready and we packed a few bags and headed straight to the hospital.
The doctor ran some tests and the result showed I had 2++ malaria and high typhoid. I was given injections and some drugs and was ready to rest at her place.
I breastfed my 10month son hours after taking my drugs and he started throwing up.I was so worried thinking he was sick too. We bathed him and he slept off. We chose to monitor him and see if he needed to see the doctor, he woke up and I breastfed him again and he throw up again so we called the doctor immediately and he was shocked.
He apologized for assuming I wasn’t breastfeeding the antibiotics I was given are not suitable for breastfeeding mothers, I had 2 options to stop the drugs or stop breastfeeding at once.
I have been wanting to stop for a while now because my son genuinely prefers his cereal and food purée, but at the same time I wanted to hit the one-year mark but it's just a few weeks away so I decided to continue with the drugs and wean my baby. It was a tough decision but it was time.
It was heartbreaking seeing him cry at night, looking for his comfort food, even when I even want to give him, I remember the antibiotics and how bad it is for his health.
It was a crazy Sunday, dealing with a heavy chest, a slight feverish condition, and my child’s cry. My mother-in-law and sister-in-law were fully involved in trying to soothe my baby with different activities and food while I had to rest.
It was a long weekend indeed, everything happened so fast and all at once, who would have thought I would wean my baby this weekend or even have a sleepover with my in-laws.
Its Monday and I am back home, I feel so better, my chest still hurts but I am better. It is crazy how babies eat when they no more have their comfort meal, so I am Off to the supermarket to stock up on my baby's meal while he is still at school and rush off home afterward to rest some more.
Well, I hope we all had a more refreshing and relaxing weekend than I did
living in Good health is truly underrated, It's good to be back and active 🥰
