A few says ago I posted about a watercolor series here. It was a special one, very interesting that showed me a world that I had no idea exists. You can check it out by clicking the link and I suggest you do as it's an interesting one.

This post is dedicated to a different collection, which is acrylic and focuses on ships and the sea, but not in traditional way.

The Show Must Go On

I'm not sure if you recognize what's in the painting, it took me a minute to see the meaning, but after the second and the third, it became obvious this is the artist's style and became easier to understand the meaning. It's a very unique interpretation of ships. Choosing these few colors also makes it unusual, out of the box. And yes, shine or rain, the show must go on, even if it's a storm on the sea.

In photography we say, when you take away colors, the eye can focus on details and that's what the artist, Enikő Bíró Kálmán did here.

Unconventional sizes and shapes in art is what I prefer, over the usual and here you can see how the top drawing has a nice upper part. Choosing mustard yellow and blue background was also not only an excellent idea but a way to highlight the drawing too.

Impenetrable Multitude

Here, I'm afraid, your guess is as good as mine. But looking at this artwork, reminds me of a user we had on the legacy chain, he was doing doodles, some very cool ones, that were used on products. He was a real professional. Too bad he quit and I don't have his username. Back to the artwork, imagine creating something similar. It takes some imagination. However, I see a fish there, which I'm not sure if it's a fish, but let's see if @coolmidwestguy can find it 😏

Refuge

Sometimes the ship drawing becomes a calligraphic sign, and sometimes it evokes the decorative motifs of ancient cultures.

The Seer

This was a bigger one and more confusing. Enlarging the photo I can see some birds, fish, but again, I'm not sure if I'm the seer or totally lost in this multitude of something I don't understand. Which begs the question, are we supposed to understand it?

Low Tide

The small ship drawings include many things: travel, adventure, exposure to (natural/) external forces... And all this is no coincident: the series was created during the pandemic.

When I saw all these tiny drawings, paintings, all showing ships on the sea, my first thought was that the artist must have a strong connection with ships and the sea, but was I wrong? Of course I was and good thing there was a message from the artist this time, to let us know why ships are dominating the exhibition.

It's interesting how the artist chose to express what the restrictions brought out of her, the desire to travel, to be precise. Everyone wanted to travel, no one wanted to be tied to their homes, but not many could express their thoughts in the world of art.

How can you make your ship drawing more interesting? By placing it on an old map, which is obviously tied to sailing.

I've never been particularly fascinated by artworks tied to sailing but seeing this interpretation of the concept made me interested.

Crossing River Styx

While the previous paintings, drawings were small sized, the one you see from here were of considerable size, meaning longer than 1 meter.

Ran Aground

These paintings were different from the previous ones and not only by size. The ships were no longer inside the circle, but covering the whole canvas.

The color combination is amazing in my eyes and would love to have it, but my walls are not of this size.

I wish I knew the title of this painting, but I don't. When I got to this part of the exhibition, I noticed the gallery lady had her eyes on me and not in a nice way. She didn't say anything but most likely me taking photos could be the issue. I was not happy about it, but as long as no one says anything, everything is good.

Cosmic Perspective

A shift in style and a bit more dramatic than the previous ones, but I like it.

This was another out of the box exhibition, which showed me how you can illustrate the same concept in so many different ways. It's not easy in my opinion, but if you are talented and gifted with great imagination, sky is the limit, or there's no limits at all.
