It's been six weeks since I finished viewing this series, so it's time to share my review. Let's see if there are others who've seen it, or I am the only one here :)
My history with Mexican movies and series is basically non existent, I can't remember if I've seen any and the reason I watched this one is because Netflix was listing it as new, I think. At that time I saw it's Spanish with English dubbing, but didn't know it's Mexican.
The first lady of Mexico is a woman of conviction and ideals. But when she loses faith in her husband, she'll need all her strength to uncover the truth.
The short storyline looked promising and I think you would have given it a chance solely based on this short description. When the main character is the first lady, you already know there will be a lot of twists and turns, as life in politics is never a strait line.
During the two seasons, we get to see both sides of life. One is the elite, the ambitious candidate's life who's made president, surrounded by influence and luxury that comes at this level. The other side is the poor, working class and underground world.
We get to see the happy family all the way to the presidential palace, then when the president is killed and the blame falls on the first lady, everything changes. She's not a decorative piece on the side of the president, she had a role in the government and instead of waiting for things to happen, she takes matters in her hands.
The first season was interesting, I enjoyed a lot and was looking forward to watching the second season, but it took a turn and went into a direction I didn't quite like. In my opinion the writers wanted too much and fell in this trap that can destroy what you achieved with the first season.
This is a matter of opinion obviously. If the movie or the series is not science fiction, I have some standards and like to see the action kept close to reality. I understand that this is fiction and you have the freedom to make it as fictional as possible, but still.
In the second season we get to see some superheroes doing things that you don't think they would do in real life. The writers and directors made sure to include some relationships that any conservative society would reject from the start. Unfortunately there are a lot of unnecessary and illogical scenes, some characters are overplaying their roles, which is quite annoying.
It was a surprise to see Maxi Iglesias in this series, a good surprise. Among the actors that deserve to be mentioned are obviously Maxi Iglesias, Kate del Castillo and Alberto Guerra.
Fun fact that I'd like to mention here is that the country of origin is Mexico, but some scenes were filmed in the United States. Kate del Castillo was being investigated by the Mexican authorities and she risked being arrested if she went back to Mexico.
All in all it wasn't bad, and I bet those familiar with Mexican, or South American life would like it. For me it was a bit too much, but can't say more without revealing some details that fall under spoiler tag.
Thinking back, the good thing is, I still remember it, even after 6 weeks 😂 Those movies and series that are bad or boring, get deleted from my memory pretty fast as there's no room for garbage.
