Yesterday I published the first art of my report full of yummy vegetables and left the fruits for today.
Unfortunately the fruit season is over at the end of July, usually, unless you have fruits that ripe later. Currants are one time harvest fruits, so those are usually over mid July and what we still can harvest later as well is the raspberries.
The first harvest was done the same time as the currants, in July and it was a good one this year. Almost one month later it can be harvested again.
This is just the beginning though as the majority of the fruits are still green, need another two weeks or so, but there will be plenty.
What you see on the photo above is jaw dropping. I've never seen so many fruits on one branch. This is highly unusual and amazing in the same time. If this ripe all at once, the branch will not be able to hold.
This was the good news and now comes the bad news.
Grapes took a hit this year, a big one. Up until this year, each year we had a good, if not great harvest. This year we will barely have enough to eat once or twice.
It's a total disaster, I have no words to describe it. You can see on the photos, the majority of the grapes is dry and what's left is already eaten by the ants.
And there's more bad news. Because the lack of grapes, branches are growing like crazy and I have to trim it again, so more work for me for nothing, unless I count the vine health, which is why I'm doing the trimming. If I skip trimming, next year we'll also have nothing.
Walnuts are not happy either. At the beginning of the season it was already visible we're not going to get a good harvest. By now half of the walnuts ended up on the ground, falling way too soon, due to some unknown illness.
Again, this is not a problem as we still have walnuts from last year. This is how gardening works. One year you get more than you need, next year you barely get something, or you get nothing at all. This is why you have to learn to save what you can and don't take everything for granted.
So this is how things stand in the garden, the situation regarding fruits is not so great but I'm still not complaining. Grapes are for consumption (a tiny part), the rest is for wine, but as none of us drink, it's not a big loss.
