¡Hola amigos! Hoy me paso por acá para compartirles mi reseña acerca de la película Backrooms.
Hi, friends! I'm stopping by today to share my review of the movie Backrooms with you.
La historia gira en torno a un hombre que vive en su tienda de muebles y constantemente tiene problemas de electricidad, luces que se apagan y se prenden solas. Hasta que un día se da cuenta que en el sótano hay una especie de espacio misterioso en la pared que puede atravesar y lo lleva hacia otra habitación con muebles extraños, pasillos interminables y puertas por todas partes, todo de un tono amarillo chillón y acompañado por la sensación de que seres extraños lo acechan.
The story revolves around a man who lives in his furniture store and constantly has electrical problems—lights that turn on and off by themselves. Until one day he realizes that in the basement there’s a mysterious opening in the wall that he can walk through, leading him to another room filled with strange furniture, endless hallways, and doors everywhere—all in a garish shade of yellow and accompanied by the feeling that strange beings are lurking nearby.
Es una película extraña y confusa, no lo voy a negar. Al principio se me hizo curiosa, me encanta que esté envuelta en una atmósfera antigua, con televisión de tubo y objetos de épocas pasadas, me dio la sensación de que querían transmitir un sentimiento de nostalgia.
It's a strange and confusing movie—I won't deny it. At first, I found it intriguing; I love that it's steeped in an old-fashioned atmosphere, with tube TVs and objects from bygone eras. It gave me the impression that they were trying to convey a sense of nostalgia.
Ahora bien, entiendo el concepto de los backrooms, estas puertas que aparecen de la nada o portales a otra dimensión que tienen varios niveles y todo es caos, parece no terminar nunca, los pasillos son interminables, parece que no hay salida y es como una dimensión desconocida. Todo es desconcertante porque también hay seres extraños y deformes que aparecen y te atacan. En esta película al backroom lo sentí más que nada como un espacio creado por la propia mente del protagonista tras vivir hechos traumáticos. Como que creó ese lugar donde deja salir a su yo verdadero, la criatura salvaje.
Now, I understand the concept of “backrooms”—these doors that appear out of nowhere, or portals to another dimension with multiple levels where everything is chaos. It seems to go on forever; the hallways are endless, there seems to be no way out, and it’s like an unknown dimension. It’s all disconcerting because there are also strange, deformed beings that appear and attack you. In this movie, I felt that the backroom was, more than anything else, a space created by the protagonist’s own mind after experiencing traumatic events. It’s as if he created that place to let his true self—the wild creature—out.
Pero, también sentí algo raro en su terapeuta, como que ella vivió algún trauma con su madre en la niñez y también tuvo algún acceso a un backroom del que habrá podido salir al crecer y formarse como profesional, pero que algo en ella volvió a desterrar ese recuerdo tras atender a su cliente con este problema.
But I also sensed something strange about her therapist—as if she had experienced some kind of trauma with her mother during childhood and had also had some access to a “backroom” from which she may have been able to escape as she grew up and developed as a professional, but something within her had once again banished that memory after treating her client with this problem.
Volviendo a la película, las partes en las que estaban en los backrooms se me hizo bastante perturbadora y todo el tiempo estuve tensionada porque sentía que iba a pasar algo malo. Los pasillos estrechos me daban sensación de ahogo y las puertas que se hacían pequeñas me generaban un aplastamiento terrible y eso que solo lo estaba mirando en una pantalla. Así que está muy bien transmitida esa atmósfera asfixiante y desesperante, porque sí, todo parecía como la tienda de muebles, pero en otra dimensión mucho más retorcida.
Getting back to the movie, the scenes where they were in the backrooms were pretty unsettling to me, and I was on edge the whole time because I felt like something bad was going to happen. The narrow hallways made me feel suffocated, and the doors that seemed to shrink made me feel terribly crushed—and that was just watching it on a screen. So that suffocating, desperate atmosphere is conveyed very well, because yes, everything looked just like the furniture store, but in a much more twisted dimension.
También odio la sensación de sentir que estoy siendo perseguida por algo que no puedo ver y la película lo transmitió muy bien al hacer esos planos en primera persona con la filmación de la cámara de mano. Me gusta ese recurso, pero fue un poco desesperante porque no sabes qué está pasando. Todo se mueve rápido porque la persona que lleva la cámara está corriendo y escuchas su respiración agitada todo el tiempo. La verdad que la atmósfera estuvo bien pensada.
I also hate the feeling of being chased by something I can't see, and the movie conveyed that really well with those first-person shots using a handheld camera. I like that technique, but it was a little nerve-wracking because you don't know what's going on. Everything moves quickly because the person holding the camera is running, and you can hear their heavy breathing the whole time. Honestly, the atmosphere was really well thought out.
En cierto punto sentí que tenía conexión con esta película, me hacía recordar videojuegos u otras producciones que utilizan recursos similares. En un punto se me hizo parecida a Silent Hill por la manera de llegar a la otra dimensión y las criaturas raras con sus sonidos raros que me hacían poner la piel de gallina. Es una sensación parecida a estar jugando a ese videojuego y ver cómo la realidad del personaje se funde en un mundo mucho más aterrador del que no es capaz de escapar. Muy bueno la verdad.
At one point, I felt a connection to this movie; it reminded me of video games or other productions that use similar elements. At one point, it reminded me of Silent Hill because of the way you enter the other dimension and the strange creatures with their eerie sounds that gave me goosebumps. It’s a feeling similar to playing that video game and watching the character’s reality merge into a much more terrifying world from which they can’t escape. Really good, honestly.
No estoy segura de sí disfruté la película porque creo que la pase un poco mal en algunos momentos y en otros se me hizo muy confusa, como si no tuviera pies ni cabeza. Igual era la idea, y dejó un final un tanto inquietante y abierto creo yo. Así que no sé qué piensen armar a futuro, pero me gustaría que sigan explorando esta dimensión y ver qué más se les ocurre. En definitiva, estuvo entretenida y la recomiendo para ver.
I'm not sure if I enjoyed the movie because I think I had a bit of a hard time with it at times, and at other times it seemed very confusing to me—as if it didn't make any sense. Maybe that was the point, and it left a somewhat unsettling and open-ended ending, I think. So I don't know what they plan to do in the future, but I'd like them to keep exploring this dimension and see what else they come up with. All in all, it was entertaining, and I recommend watching it.
