True. It's a long way to get at least a bit of understanding of oneself.

I agree with what you say about biology and the need for us humans not to live separately from all systems but to be an integral part of them and that the complexity of life is not something that can be studied like a machine, taken apart and put back together again, to use my words.

Regarding your thoughts and hopes about space travel, though, I am rather sceptical. From a spiritual point of view, I agree that human beings are bound to their earthly existence and to this planet and I don't see much difference in whether they spend their lifetime here or elsewhere in the cosmos. Similarly, I don't think emigrating to another country made my life better, for example. There is enough to wonder about here on earth and marvel at the living as long as it meets you. However, I can understand the longing for the foreign and also the fascination about travelling to the stars.

In a way, I see my task as fulfilled, which I accomplished in the time of my life. It is not much and I would have done many things differently when I look back. I hope I brought joy to more people than sorrow, but I can't judge that. At the moment I live a rather withdrawn life and there is little inspiration for me to participate or join a group anywhere, for example. However, I admire the people who do this and who are still committed to something even in their older years. I tend to have the problem that I have reflected on so much, read so much niche literature, that it is hard for me not to bring it up in superficial encounters and so I often feel like a stranger among acquaintances. Although it gives me pleasure to talk about past, exciting times, because I have experienced a lot and can share a rich treasure of memories.
