Thank you, I am really happy about the chance to finally having told the story here. That Vegas episode haunted my head for a long time. It was only when I read the much older diary entry straight from 1994 that the whole thing started to make sense as a story (I only had the diary handy now because we had recently moved and I could finally unpack all the boxes I had previously stored). I had already written an anecdote about our tap dancing under the massive dome by then - years ago - but something had always been missing. I took a new approach about two years ago and put the focus on something else and half fictional, but that was also only something for my hard drive. Only now, after this week's prompt, did the story come to life, because it actually goes hand in hand with my passion for playing cards. I love games in general.
HaHa! Yes, the question at the end ;)
