I see what you mean. The chasm that has opened up between religious/spiritual and scientifically oriented worldviews is unmistakable. I see in both a problem of over-identification and exaggeration, especially when it comes to missionary zeal, regardless of which camp it comes from.

For me, science in and of itself is a method of eliminating rash assumptions and I think it is significant. However, from my perspective, the ground on which modern science is conducted does not seem to be primarily determined by an inquiring mind with an open-ended attitude. Scientists in particular would have to strictly ask themselves whether their research can still claim this openness to results for itself or whether it is already dominated by other forces and can even afford this luxury of openness.

The path taken by a paper written by a scientist or documenting a result becomes distorted in the use of language where a translation of scientific expression into the media "generally understandable" results. There it is teeming with exaggerations and interpretations of all colours.

I think the publication space of science has taken on a similar sprawl as in pop culture. Where most of the publications and views have taken place, the impression arises that most of the truth can also be found there. As far as I know, a serious scientist has never claimed to find the truth and would be well advised not let this happen to himself and his work. Journalists or political actors, however, urge these people to make unequivocal statements, as I suspect. The vanities that run rampant in this field, I think, are just as strong as in all other fields.

As far as my interests are concerned, I am very keen on those scientists who question the objectivity of science in and of itself and who therefore look or have looked with moderation and also humour at their own field of activity. To mention just two names, such as Russel Ackhoff or Heinz von Förster. If you feel like it, I will send you the links of my corresponding articles, where you will find the sources.

My wrist hurt, but one can change a behavior quickly with this technique. I hope you try it someday 😉

Nah ... I am not good with self torture :D
