The Book of Us: The Demon

I bought my first ever physical album. Last May. This album was by a band called DAY6, and was shipped all the way from South Korea. Errr, I still haven't had it right now, as it is stuck in Manila with debilog@debilog due to the quarantine restrictions and I'm more than a hundred kilometers away.

I always listen music through Spotify, so you bet I'm ecstatic about this physical album. debilog@debilog wrote something about this album by DAY6 here. The best part about physical albums is that they almost always come with freebies.

This is one of the freebies from the DAY6 album; a photocard/bookmark of bassist and vocalist, Young K. Photo taken and sent by debilog@debilog.

Of course, debilog@debilog knows by heart that the album that comes with a lot of Young K freebies automatically belongs to me. I can't wait to get my hands on it! It's been months (and it's a little expensive because of the shipping fee).

Drawing Young K

Young K is DAY6's resident bassist, and I'm his fan. Of the five members, I am most attracted to him. I liked how sharp his eyes looked, and definitely love the kindness in his face.

Young K is the songwriter for majority of their songs, so I really appreciate his creativeness. Finally, he sings so well, it's crazy. His voice is so distinctive, I can listen to him all day.

The reference for this fan art was one of his official photoshoots for The Demon album.

Initially, I'd been intending to play around with the drawing by changing lighting and stuff, but I got seriously lazy. I was also supposed to finally, finally try out ArtFlow in its entirety, but at the moment, I'm still working even when it's a late Friday night where I'm at.

In this drawing, I hardly used the blur tool... only for the edges toward the end.

I took my time drawing him... because he's Young K. I know him (well, as far as knowing him as a low-key fan can get?). There's something about drawing someone's face when you know the person that makes it difficult, than when you haven't the slightest about the person, like my earlier portrait drawings.

Notes

A lot happened in my life this week. I might make a "my week in illustrations" perhaps this weekend. It was crazy, and to think I never even once stepped out of our house.

I had been finishing a 5-month-old MATLAB white paper... yes, it took me 5 months and still, I'm not through. I need to get it finished tonight, but circumstances... aren't on my side this week. And my license is expiring soon. -face palm-

Anyway, listen to one of DAY6's songs, Zombie?

NOTE: embed won't work unless viewed in PeakD. The following text in H5 is part of Zombie's lyrics.

"I feel like I became a zombie
Not alive, but I'm still walkin'
When the sunrise is upon me
I'll be waiting for the day to pass by, oh why?"
