Sí, hoy fue mi primera reunión de recibimiento de los nuevos ingresos en una institución nueva donde puedes estudiar maestría, post grados, cursos o carreras desde el inicio. La Escuela de Liderazgo de la Mujer "Nora Castañeda" tiene convenios con distintas universidades reconocidas nacional e internacionalmente, hace meses me había inscrito como aspirante en el área de psicología pero al final me recomendaron hacer una especialización de una de mis carreras para ser docente, me graduaría en menos años, eso a recomendación por mi edad y algunas limitaciones.
Acepté, y elegí Licenciada en Educación Media Técnica y profesional, la especialidad viene ligada al área de administración, contaduría y finanzas, que fue mi primer título académico por allá en el año 1998 aprox.

Yes, today was my first orientation meeting for new students at a new institution where you can pursue a master’s degree, graduate programs, courses, or undergraduate degrees from the very beginning. The “Nora Castañeda” School of Women’s Leadership has partnerships with various nationally and internationally recognized universities. Months ago, I had applied to study psychology, but in the end, they recommended that I pursue a specialization in one of my previous fields of study to become a teacher—I would graduate in fewer years—based on my age and certain limitations.
I accepted and chose the Bachelor’s Degree in Technical and Vocational Secondary Education; the specialization is linked to the fields of administration, accounting, and finance—which was my first academic degree, back in approximately 1998.

Sentí que hoy inició un nuevo ciclo para mí, agradecí la oportunidad y por supuesto mi voluntad, me encanta aprender, una de las universidades nacionales aceptó mi postulación (Universidad Nacional Experimental del Magisterio “Samuel Robinson”) y eso fue grandioso ya que de ser en su sede principal no hubiera podido hacerlo, queda muy lejos de mí residencia, sin embargo, esta nueva universidad que funciona a larga distancia y me queda a 10 minutos caminando desde mi residencia.
Fue un día muy emotivo para mí, además los directivos y el personal de la universidad nos tenían un recibimiento que jamás viví ni en instituciones privadas donde estudié.

I felt that a new chapter began for me today. I’m grateful for the opportunity and, of course, for my own determination—I love learning. One of the national universities accepted my application (the “Samuel Robinson” National Experimental University of Education), and that was great because if it had been at its main campus, I wouldn’t have been able to attend—it’s too far from where I live— However, this new university offers distance learning, and it’s just a 10-minute walk from where I live.
It was a very emotional day for me. Plus, the university administrators and staff gave us a welcome that I’ve never experienced, not even at the private institutions where I studied.

Habían como 50 personas nuevo ingreso aproximadamente, faltaron muchas personas - dijeron - todas de distintas especialidades y distintas edades.
La Escuela de Liderazgo de la Mujer "Nora Castañeda" es una institución de estudios para empoderar a la mujer, por lo cual solo hay mujeres estudiando y dando clases allí, incluso el personal de vigilancia también son mujeres. Cuando entré por primera vez en la universidad para pedir cupo, parecía que estaba en otro país, es un mundo nuevo y distinto allí dentro, comparado con otras instituciones, espero siga siendo así y de calidad.
Nos recibieron con sorpresas, hubo bailo terapia, luego pasamos al comedor donde nos esperaban con refrigerios y para cerrar, médicos profesionales en el área de ginecología, psicología y docencia nos dieron diferentes charlas, desde cuidados de la salud mental y física, donde nos hablaron también del despistaje de cáncer de seno.
No imaginé que después de tantos años viviría esta experiencia, tampoco poder volver a cursar otros estudios y obtener otra carrera universitaria, aun cuando mi país transita por momentos bastante difíciles en todo aspecto, ver algo bueno en medio de todo me llena de esperanza y resiliencia.

There were about 50 new students, they said—many people were absent—all from different fields of study and of different ages.
The “Nora Castañeda” Women’s Leadership School is an educational institution dedicated to empowering women, which is why only women study and teach there—even the security staff are women. When I first entered the university to apply for a spot, it felt like I was in another country; it’s a whole new and different world in there compared to other institutions. I hope it stays that way and maintains its high quality.
They welcomed us with surprises—there was dance therapy—and then we went to the dining hall, where refreshments were waiting for us. To wrap things up, medical professionals specializing in gynecology, psychology, and education gave us various talks, ranging from mental and physical health care to breast cancer screening.
I never imagined that after so many years I would have this experience, nor that I would be able to return to school and earn another college degree. Even though my country is going through quite difficult times in every respect, seeing something good in the midst of it all fills me with hope and resilience.
