One thing I have found to be helpful when joining something new whether that be in-person or online. It's best to get the lay of the land first. This watch, read, and reply is a slow measured way to get a sense of what is and isn't how the community operates.

This is especially true of a place like Hive where the community is long in the tooth and has been through some tough times. Something or someone new that could change the status quo is seen as a possible threat. Why? Because it's happened before. This comes across as a shoot first and ask questions later model. And is definitely off-putting for the average newbie who hasn't taken the time to learn the ways. Now add in an influencer who is accustomed to the type of behavior and general acceptance and perhaps even admiration of the general social media population. A place like Hive that has active guard dog type folks, well it's understandable why they are scared off. BUT if only they had taken the time to listen and learn before making the decision to create content. A place like this does demand active community care. Which is something new for those that are accustomed to large corporate platforms. What they may miss is that we are the platform.
