at the end of autumn before the first snow the forest is exceptionally bare
closest to the sea, in open areas with young trees the forest floor is covered with tall grasses that have turned brown
while in other parts seedlings dominate. this forest has a wide variety of tree species
the once colorful autumn leaves have all fallen and faded
in spring and summer when there are leaves on the trees the water gets sucked up by all the roots but after the leaves fall the sap stops running and the water drains very slowly making the lower sections of the forest quite swampy
in October there was a hurricane that blew down many trees, some of which blocked the paths. local enthusiasts have been busy ever since clearing the paths
horsetails have taken completely over the ground cover on slightly higher ground, but still with consistently wet soil
in the summer the horsetails are dark green, almost black but in December they fade like the pale maple leaf and the darker brown oak leaves below it
