I’m Still Around And It’s Almost Shocking
Frankly, I never thought I’d still be here. I’ve been here during the highest highs and the lowest lows. I’ve posted on good days and some of the worst. I’ve posted when it's sunny outside where I’d rather be elsewhere and when I’ve had nowhere else to be.
This past year has been quite different. Despite things not going so well beyond my blog in the real world like everyone else. Within my blog, I’ve reached a place as a content creator I never thought I would be at.
For so many years I use to be up till three or four in the morning working on content. As soon as it was done I would hit publish. Then wait around for comments for about an hour before going to bed. Those days at least over the past year are behind me.
Unless I’m writing something that is a bit more time-sensitive I’m no longer posting content I’ve written the day of. I’ve accomplished having a couple of post backlogs that I’ve always wanted to have. This has enabled me to focus not on what I need to finish that day, but instead, on what I want to publish a week later.
That also means if content takes a bit longer to get out the door I have the time. I’ve struggled over the years trying to find a balance between time spent enjoying my hobby and getting a post out the door. This also usually meant once I posted about a game it was time to move on.
While I’ve always had my staples like Path of Exile that I would create a series of content on. Such things were quite often rare as I would move from game to game. Often I would not get to enjoy a game fully once I had a post out about it and had to move on to something else.
I have also been using the scheduled posting feature on occasion. This was the first year I had content being published when I was not around for days on end. Life and events often get in the way. Instead of stressing about it. I now have that backlog of content that I can be gone for days on end and not rush to get something out or have my blog remain silent for two weeks.
My old way of working on content was insanity. There were moments when I’d be in the middle of playing 6 different games at once. I was always trying to balance the short-term games along with content that would take months to get out. While that still happens on occasion it’s not as bad as it use to be.
I still remember my early days. I use to spend hours writing a single comment. Yes, just a comment. They were often ignored as giant walls of text. Sometimes I would get a reply back and for a while, I would create a new friend on the internet.
In those old days, it also took me sometimes six to twenty hours to just write a single post up. That is not include anything that leads up to being able to create the post. Just the writing part alone. I’ve never been that much of a writer and quite a slow one at that. Over these years I’ve cut that time down so much it’s made this journey enjoyable.
It’s now gotten to a point where I’m almost considering and testing around with uploading smaller-sized screenshots and images I use in my post. I find myself often being slowed down waiting for the uploads so I can put them into my post. Which is just a strange issue to have!
It took me quite a long time but I’ve worked out my method of content creation that I’ve refined over the years that works quite well for me. While one-off posts like this still take longer to work out and write up. In general, I’ve shocked myself with how quickly I sometimes write a piece of content.
It’s been amazing to share my hobby and love for gaming over all these years. If you would have asked me when I was younger if I ever would be publishing written content online and earning a single cent. Not only would I have laughed at you but every single writing teacher I ever had as well.
I also feel like I’m one of the rare ones. While 2017 seems like a great year and around these following months of people sticking around in good and bad times. There are so many people I’ve chatted with over the years that are long gone.
There are some people I miss greatly and think about from time to time. It would have been nice if we could have made this journey together. That is however not always in the cards. Regardless I keep posting.
Final Thoughts
While it is great to finish off another year here. It’s always about looking forward to the future. This coming year despite whatever the Hive price will end up doing will be an amazing one for me. I am quite close to reaching a lot of accomplishments. These took many years and a lot of effort to even get close.
I will hopefully on Twitter break 1k followers over there. It’s felt like an eternity to get anywhere. Perhaps they will ban me at 999 followers for some added fun! That is quite a special number for a few reasons that I’ll hopefully be able to take advantage of one day.
Many funnels I post links to my content in are about to break 10k views each. They are also slowly building up into something. These things take a long time but once they get going they slowly move upwards. While that might not sound like a lot. Only gamers looking for the game in question my content is on would even find the link in the first place. This makes every view quite a highly focused and valued one even if it’s not a click on my content.
I’ve started using Collections as a way to organize my content when I have a few posts on something. No longer am I bashing my brains on a wall trying to deal with my old index. Although that index is still around I just refuse to spend hours a month trying to maintain it.
Cheers to those still around. Hopefully, over the years you have built up your talents and continue to outshine those who lack the passion and fortitude to keep showing up.
