This particular hashtag has been making waves across so many social networks lately, I had to see what it was all about. Turns out, there is an infant boy named Karim Rahman that lost his eye and mother to an artillery attack back in October in Syria. Nothing new really, it's been going on for four years. I didn't really care until I saw a picture of the little bugger. This is a picture of him a few weeks after leaving the hospital:
So I did some more investigating. I had already known that Syria has been a warzone for awhile, but this just really brings light to the situation and that's why I took my own picture up there, to say, "Yes goddammit, enough is enough." WAR BREEDS NO LOVE. You can quote me on that. It happens all over the world frequently, but this time, it has gone viral. Pictures of world leaders with their hand over their eye in honor of Karim are appearing everywhere. People like the U.K. representative for the United Nations - Matthew Rycroft - are getting behind this and have taken a photo similar to the one I did.
What Can We Do?
I would love to see at the BARE MINIMUM, members of #thealliance take a few pictures if they feel the same as I do. Something to say hey, we care here at Steemit. Are there any other ways we can help? I would like to pose a question to the various charities and organizations around Steemit and see if we have any way to assist people over there. Perhaps @youarehope has a venue for this or maybe we have an ally that actually lives near there. I would be more than happy to get a fundraiser going and support whatever we can do for the displaced families and victims of the strife in that grief-stricken part of the world. Talk to me.
