The long awaited dash roadmap was a little disappointing to me. There were lots of good features (though mostly very technical) but not enough to wow me. Considering the huge monthly budget I figured they would either be able to deliver more features or deliver faster but I was disappointed on both measures. It does seem like a lot of thought was spent on scaling. Most of this was over my head but sounded well thought out. Larger block sizes and higher masternode hardware requirements seem like mundane developments but perhaps prevent the kind of issues plaguing bitcoin and ethereum. I guess my complaints are on the business/finance/economic side:
1) The savings account and master node shares are not until some future undated release 14.
This seems years away but should be a priority. Cryptos are only useful as a store of value now and savings accounts are a necessity to fulfilling this role. Dash seems to be too focused on payments rather than wealth storage. Ethereum could move to proof of stake and offer savings accounts before dash is ready. As well Decred and pivx might get their systems working better. This is my number one disappointment.
2) evolution delayed until feb. 2018 with most features next summer
This was supposed to happen in 2017 when the treasury was less than a quarter of the current size. It seems like the expanded treasury achieved nothing. Platforms like steem already have username login (though the password leaves much to be desired). I am not so sure dash can maintain its lead against stiff competition. Even litecoin with its founder back on top could emerge as a tougher competitor. The delay makes me nervous.
3) no marketing update.
Marketing has been a little soft since dash detailed ended. It seems like some marketing goals could have been added to the roadmap. Perhaps a much needed replacement to dash detailed could be launched? Perhaps some marketing goals? At the minimum announce the launch of marketing director search.
4) no update on how to use the treasury
The treasury has been underutilized for many months but using the 1.2m more wisely was not in the roadmap. I realize this is a new type of organization but why not have someone focused on using the treasury?
Now I don't want to gloss over the good things including:
- a detailed timeline
- plans to go to 2mb blocks (and up to 400mb) and other scaling needs
- email invite systems
- friending
- high performance capability
But I guess my expectations were too high.
