I used to describe myself as being a seeker of Truth. One day a friend named Marilyn said – “Instead of being a seeker of Truth why not be a listener, feeler or perhaps even a knower of Truth?” (BE THE TRUTH!) I thought about this and remembered an old Buddhist book I had titled “The Thing You are Seeking Is What’s Causing You to Seek”. When I looked around I noticed that everyone seemed to be seeking - like that line from the Eurythmics song Sweet Dreams –“Everybody’s looking for something.” It seemed to me that this phenomena of seeking was an element of consciousness that was like a force in nature – like the force of gravity. Just like after the big bang when all the swirls of gas and dust began to coalesce into larger and larger clumps to make up planets and solar systems and galaxies. There was a force somehow drawing existence into an organized pattern. I thought about the things that people were seeking. I noticed that some were seeking freedom, health, wealth, joy and peace. Gosh even the people who seemed to have everything you could possibly need still wanted things like power. I began to notice that all of these things that people were seeking could be correlated to basic qualities and that these qualities were all associated with aspects of God. I thought that those seeking wealth were really seeking the abundance of God. Those seeking freedom were really seeking unlimited creativity. Those seeking health were really seeking the perfection of God. Heck, even “so called” evil persons looking for control were really just looking for the security of God. As I noticed this I began to ponder that we are the Ones that we have been seeking for - Each of us coming from God and part of God. I began to look at everyone around me and think the line from that Tom Cruise move Jerry McGuire – “You complete me!”
