Learning is the process of gaining skills or acquiring knowledge either from experiences or being taught formally of informally. Have you ever wondered why it is easy to learn from other people? Some people for instance, behave the way they do because they learnt it from other people. Most people find it more difficult to learn formally, that is by reading, than to study and learn people's behavior and lifestyle. This is because, the way the brain works while one read is very complex and complicated.
According to researchers at Carnegie Mellon University, who used Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging(FMRI) searching ma home to carry out their research. They brought in participants who were to read the book, * Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone.* This group of researchers carried out a scan work on the brain of the participants for few days.
They had a successful research in that they observed several changes that occurred on the brain. They discovered that the activation of the brain region while reading is the same activation that takes place when watching real movements, actions, performances, etc. For instance, when a word like, perfume or coffee is read, the olfactory cortex lights up, but when another word that is not related to smell is mentioned, the olfactory cortex becomes dark.
So, after reading a book or novel, actual changes linger in the brain at least for a few days. The area of the brain associated with receptivity for language is in the left temporal receptivity.
