One of the greatest privileges of being human is the element of freedom, ability for each individual to make informed choices & decision based on their personal discretion and perception of the world. Arguably, the concept of freedom can not be generalised among all humans because it is a factor that is not attributed to being human.
There are some humans in less civilised nations and countries who are not capable of enjoying the freedom they deserve based on their environment, society, governmental laws and ethics which solely depends on the kind system of government such nation operates.
From my own perspective in some ways I consider freedom to be an illusion, which is one of the greatest critics against libertarian theory of the press. In the surface it might look like we are free but we are not. Every human is bound by specific laws and ethics regardless of Which nation we reside in. it is a form of social contract humans entered consciously or unconsciously to create order in the social system. Laws and constitutions are made to create boundaries and limitations for the conduct of humans.
In the stone age, when humans lived based on instinct, our sole aim was to survive regardless of the cost, which includes hunting, territory and property acquisition et.c These were the major priorities of humans during the stone age, we were not bound by laws or constitution, they lived based on personal instinct and principles despite that there was lack of security for lives and property, because any large group or clan on their own could just decide to raid another clan in order to enslave and loot their belongings. Which is a common act among the ancient Vikings.
In one of the arguments of Thomas Hobbes social contract theory, he made emphasis on the chaotic nature of humans, which is the reason why we sort out a more stable solution, to subject ourselves to a centralised authority and make laws that bids us in order to keep our chaotic nature in check. Does it not sound sad that we gave up our individual freedom for safety of our lives and property and yet we still end up like this.
The central authority we acknowledge to be in charge of maintaining law and order is known as the government. We are quite of aware of the fact that the government is also made of humans, so we made sure the law is above the government. Though it depends on the structure of government of a country operates by. The law is meant to rule supreme above all but it is not what we have now, is it?
The society is such a large place filled with individuals with different kinds of personality and perspective. Despite our differences, somehow we find ways to living in harmony together, you think it is an act of love or nationality, it is not. Humans are social animals, from time to time we are bound to engage in things that will create chaos in the eco-system and the society at large.
