Hunter's comment

The flexible model of crypto currencies created a new era on rewarding open-source projects and maintainers. Utopian is a great example of it, probably the most successful one.

Even though GitCash is not a direct competitor of Utopian, it focuses on tipping to support open-source efforts. After creating your account, and filling up your wallet, you can send tips to open-source project developers, maintainers, contributors.

In order to send a tip, you have to command to GitCash bot like:

@GitCash send 0.1 BCH to receiver@receiver_account

After that, the receiver can redeem their BCH by the website. Currently, to summon the Gitcash bot, you need to post this inside an issue or pull request.

It's good, fast and reliable to utilize crypto-currencies for this kind of tipping mechanics. As an open-source developer, I remember I had to register to Paypal to redeem my $12 tips a few years ago. :)

The project is not open source yet, but they plan to open-source it at some point in the next couple of months.
