We've all seen it before, even here on Hive with sites like PeakD, and most ignore it, but those who don't ignore it are the real heroes for creators. The tip button on most platforms is a rounding error. A couple of dollars that take three business days to process, minus a platform fee, minus a payment processor cut, and the creator sees something like 60% of what you sent, eventually.
BlockTunes tipping works differently. When you tip a creator, they get all of it, immediately, on-chain. No middlemen at work taking a cut. The tip is yours and yours alone! No other platform can say that. That is the kind of power that crypto tipping provides!
Every artist profile and every track card on BlockTunes has a Tip button. For native Hive tipping, it's one click.
Choose the amount, choose the currency , $MUSIC, $HIVE, or $HBD, and sign the transaction with your Hive wallet. The funds transfer directly from your account to the creator's account, on-chain, in seconds. No platform fee, no payment processor, no escrow, and better yet, no waiting.
The transaction is broadcast to the Hive blockchain with a memo that identifies the artist and track. It's verifiable on-chain. The creator can see it the moment it hits the network. It's really that simple, which is just how we like it for our users! This is what direct payments and tipping actually looks like. Two wallets, one transaction, done. No Cash App, Paypal, or Venmo taking a cut of the payment. Just you and the blockchain!
We do realize too that not everyone is on Hive, or doesn't have enough Hive to spare for tipping. We've thought about that. For fans and supporters who want to send crypto from their existing wallets, BlockTunes supports crypto tipping across five chains.
When an artist has wallet addresses set up in their profile, their tip modal shows a QR code for each chain they've configured:
Scan the code with your wallet, send the amount you want to send, and the creator receives it in their wallet directly. And being it's all direct peer-to-peer, once again, no nasty middlemen taking a cut of your money!
Here's the part that's easy to overlook for most people. When you send a crypto tip and the transaction hits the network, the platform knows about it immediately. That's not an automatic thing. Most platforms that claim to support crypto either use a third-party block explorer with rate limits and caching delays, or they just tell you to "check the blockchain yourself." BlockTunes runs its own full RPC nodes for every supported chain. Well, currently with the acception of Hive, that takes some major resources and we are hoping to build our own RPC at some point in the future.
Having our own nodes for these other crypto networks though, gives us the ability to create these easy to use payment tools!
Any Hive account can receive $MUSIC, $HIVE, and $HBD tips on BlockTunes without any setup. If you have a Hive account, the native tip functionality works out of the box!
To receive crypto tips (BTC, ETH, LTC, DOGE, XMR), add your wallet addresses in Settings under your profile. Once they're saved, your tip modal automatically shows QR codes for each chain you've configured. You can add as many or as few as you want.
Tips aren't just for artists. Fans, curators, bloggers, community members, anyone with a BlockTunes account can receive tips from people who appreciate what they contribute.
In an industry where artists have watched revenue streams narrow for 20 years, where streaming pays fractions of a cent and algorithms determine who gets heard, a direct tip is a different kind of transaction that means much more. It's a person saying,'Hey, I see what you made, I'm glad you made it, here's something real.'
On BlockTunes, that something real goes directly to the person who deserves it.
