Traveling is one of the things from which I derive so much pleasure. Each time I am in a vehicle going through different places, seeing how the world looks outside I feel like the journey shouldn't come to an end.
Although traveling makes me happy, sometimes I only travel once or twice in a year, due to the cost of transportation, and work, and other times as a result of a lack of place to visit.
Around January, this year, I decided to visit my elder sister who lives in Jos. I have been promising to visit her for quite some time but was unable to do so due to my schedule.
When I got less busy and had some cash to do the journey this year I decided to make good use of the opportunity.
It was on a Saturday afternoon, I had informed her that I would be coming within
the week but I was not specific about the day I was going to come, I love taking people by surprise.
That Saturday afternoon, I called her and broke the news of my coming, she was surprised and her husband was as well.
I know if they had their way they would have told me to leave it for the next day due to the security challenges in the country, but they know I wouldn't listen because I love arriving at my destination when the place is dark whenever I am traveling.
It was a four hour journey, I left my place around 3 pm for the park and that was where the fun began. I didn't even know that the park had been moved from where I used to know to a different location, it was the bike man who broke the news to me when I told him I was going to the park.
Prior to that time, I have been hearing that the government is fixing roads inside the town, making each of them a double lane. That day I saw it for myself, the old roads were scrapped off, our roundabout was also removed and they are constructing a flyover instead.
The town looked new and scattered, it was as if I was not in my own city. I was happy to see the development, however, bike men hiked bike prices due to the lack of roads.
When we got to the new park, I was lucky there were already other passengers on the ground, the car didn't take long before we took off.
Plateau is one of the states I know to have bad roads. But it was not like that when I was going this time around.
The road was smooth, the potholes that used to be one of the challenges of the road were fixed.
Although our car almost collided with one J5 bus that lost control all thanks to God a few metres from our car it somersaulted and diverted into the bush.
The other passengers in our car panicked and never recovered from the fear till we reached Plateau.
Although we almost encountered an accident, the journey was cool for me.
The passengers in the car were fun to travel with, they were just arguing controversial things about the government and I was enjoying it.
What made me enjoy the car the most was the medical doctor in our midst, he thought he was in the hospital, and he kept educating us on diets and the relevance of regular checkups.
I was also impressed with the renovation of the road that is currently taking place. I heard that the federal government has approved a double-lane project on the plateau roads too. I just hope it is true. That road is one of the busiest roads in the north. It ought to be given attention.
For now, I don't have any travel plans, however, I want to visit one of my friends in Abuja around December, even though I am not so certain about it. But if things go well it will happen.
I can't tell what the journey would look like but traveling on the Nigerian road is always fun, there is always something to make it interesting.
