The film follows Barnabas Collins (Johnny Depp), a very wealthy nobleman who got cursed by a powerful witch, Angelique Bouchad (Eva Green) for refusing her love and choosing that of Josette (Bella Heathcote).
Being consumed by jealousy and selfish interest, Angelique was determined to ruin the life of Barnabas by taking everyone and everything he cares about away from him.
After destroying his family and the love of his life, Josette. Barnabas ended up with a curse and was eventually buried alive.
Two centuries later, Barnabas was accidentally freed by some group of miners who mistook his coffin for a box of treasures.
Barnabas returned to his family's property, but things weren't the same anymore; the world had evolved; the way of life had changed, and sadly their family name was no longer recognized, and their fishing business had been reduced to nothing.
Barnabas was set to bring everything back to life, together with some of the descendants of the family; however, Angelique was able to survive through the centuries and is now an obstacle he must take out in order to restore everything he has lost.
The costume and cinematography of this movie are some of the remarkable things. Blending old-fashioned dresses and modern ones made it interesting.
I can not express how impressed I am with the look of the character Barnabas Collins; the black-and-white background given specifically for him is quite mind-blowing. The pale body color also made the vampire vibe real.
Johnny Depp brought the character Barnabas into the light with his great performances. I admire his sense of humor and prowess in using ancient English. I love to call it “the King James English". Every bit of it was a hit.
Eva Green also did well playing as Angelique, she is one of the best characters in the movie, even though she was the villain, I liked her performances; especially the romance and strictness in her decisions.
One thing I observed about her character was that she could have been good if only she was loved, but because she was rejected, she chose to become the devil.
The lesson there is that not every bad person out there wants to be bad; if only they can be shown love, a lot of them would have been good.
Meanwhile, I expected this movie to be very horrifying, but it's almost less of that; much attention was given to comedy and fantasy instead.
The movie ended well; the villain was taken out, and the Collins family regained their freedom.
In general, the movie is good, and I will recommend it to those interested in watching horror movies. Although it isn't that horrifying, you would enjoy the character Barnabas, the vampire.
