The realization that people we idolize are as flawed in their ways as anybody else can be quite unsettling. For most of us it begins with our parents. As we grow older we begin to see reasons why we might not want to walk in their footsteps, a dream and desire that we once embraced with all sincerity.

Some of us tend to be quite harsh in our passage of judgement of others, especially the people we once looked up to. The cracks become exaggerated and blown out of proportion as we shape our emerging World views. The same actions and guidance we once eagerly sought now irritate us. The people we once called heroes now offend us.

For most of us this is just a phase, and one that we do overcome with time and maturity. If we are lucky, we quickly come to appreciate the qualities we admired most and cease passing judgements based on every minor flaw. Best case scenario we have a unique understanding and appreciation of the struggles our heroes faced and had to overcome themselves. On the flip side a few don't quite make it out of this loop.

The thing is, no matter how justified we are in our initial grievances, a time does come when we will ultimately be faced with similar choices as we progress through life. We find people who make the same mistakes their parents made and not take accountability for it. Eventually growing up demands we take personal responsibility for whatever may have shaped the options and choices in front of us.
