I once read a commentary on how a 'shocked' tourist was left in tears when a hungry Cheetah tore up an infant Gazelle. Apparently she was shocked by how violent nature was and the scary fate of the innocent little Gazelle.
For animal lovers who are familiar with nature such reactions would seem quite odd. It is quite normal to see Predators tear up their prey without any remorse. Most prey are accustomed to the bloodlust of predators and ready themselves to engage or flee once a predator draws close.
Yet modern society has left me bewildered with the way a significant number of us who are privileged reason. We increasingly see important decisions and judgements made from sheer emotion than anything else. While feelings are valid it is a disastrous way to run any society.
As Adults there are some facts that we must get accustomed to as we progress through life. One of the most important for me has been refusing to apply a 'general knowledge or feeling' to issues of different dimensions. If we proceed with an emotional reaction we compromise whatever is left of our values until there is nothing else.
