There is an increasing and growing direct link between excessive consumption of social media and real life unhappiness. As stated before, it seems all the solutions and remedies that social media and AI had been projected to solve has only worsened while leaving us with the most bizarre and effective addiction in the history of makind.
I mean, it you look at it, the internet isn't very exciting once you take away social media. Should that happen you simply have plain old run of the mill websites that certainly are not programmed to keep us in a endless loop. If am ordering something online for instance, no matter how well the algorithm feeds me, the pull won't be as strong because it isn't exactly what you'd call entertainment, not unless you find window-shopping exciting.
Once sucked into the social media algorithm a quick 5 minute information stop can turn to hours of doom scrolling and regret. I've never seen someone feel good after a session of doom scrolling. It usually ends up in regret. Yet for the vast majority of us it is a reality that we are faced with on a continuous basis. We tend to repeat the cycle of regret over and over. But breaking the cycle is possible I believe, and like I said previously the internet isn't as exciting without social media.
I think as we get more conscious there is need to seek out and embrace social media that doesn't focus so heavily on the algorithm. I think spaces like Hive can and are probably already crucial to a few people who want to still enjoy social media without all the distractions. We need to provide better solutions for ourselves, before the algorithm takes over.
