Nkechi started a new life in Mr. Eze’s family. Mrs. Eze loved her so much that she couldn’t afford ant crawling on her
body, it’s obvious that she was happy because she now have someone to; talk with in the kitchen, call for errands and to help her do the house chores. Sometimes Nkechi goes to farm to help Mr. Eze. Indeed they enjoyed her company. Soon she forgot about her aunty.
One day, as Nkechi was reading a novel in the living room, Mr. Eze entered.
“Good afternoon papa” she greeted him
“How are you my daughter” he responded
“It seems as if you love reading, you must be a brainy one”
“Yes papa, but due to the death of my mother, I couldn’t do my final exam at school” she said as she busted into tears, Mr. Eze quickly petted her using his clothes to wipe off her tears and then promised to help her go further in her education.
Few months after, Mr. Eze decided to register Nkechi for all her necessary examinations to gain admission to university. She was so happy and thanked him because she had already lose hope on her education since the death of her mother. She promised him to try all her best and not to disappoint him.
Nkechi prepared firmly for the examination and to God be the glory, all her efforts were crowned with success, and she made all her papers. As she was running home to share the good news, she met Mrs. Eze, Mrs. Eze told her that someone was asking after her at home. Nkechi quickly ran home to check whom the person was. Getting inside, she met her aunty with Mr. Eze discussing, she used her hands to rub her face to check if her eyes wasn’t deceiving her but to her surprise it was a distance reality from dream.
“What are you doing here?”
“Papa why did you allow her in?” she said in anger as she dashed outside and began to cry outside. Mr. Eze came out to beg her, as he started crying as well because it seemed as if Aunty Sareme was taking away his joy (Nkechi). Aunty Sareme begged her for living her behind but she refused to and insisted to stay and never to go anywhere.
It was already late in the night, Nkechi never mind taking her meal nor have time for the interesting story Mr. Eze always told her, she went to her room, locked the door and started crying in a state of dilemma. After enough pleading she agreed to go with her.
Early in the morning, Aunty sareme had already helped her to pack her luggage in her prestigious car. she gave the family a huge amount of money. It was time to leave, Nkechi started crying as she saw Mr. and Mrs. Eze crying. Aunty sareme was already waiting for Nkechi to get into the car, as Nkechi was about getting into the car she ran back and hugged both Mr. Eze and Mrs. Eze and couldn’t leave them alone as they all cried. Mr Eze gave her a precious necklace that his father gave him before his father died. Nkechi promised to check back on them as she went to the car waving to them as the car zoomed off.
