THE GREEKS
The Greeks came originally around the captain sea and settled in Greece. They were not civilized when they arrived in different sets and under different leaders between 2000 B.C and 1500 B.C.
Despite the fact that the Greeks were uncivilized, yet they turned out to become the most civilized of all people in the Ancient world.
GEOGRAPHY
Greece is surrounded by water on three sides which is known as peninsular. There are also many islands around the peninsular. Peloponnesus in southern Greece is almost an island but for the narrow piece of land connecting it with the rest of the mainland.
The coastline of Greece is highly indented and therefore has many natural harbors. The mainland however, is full of hills, mountains and valleys. Some too, is not very fertile. It was here that the Greeks came into settled between 2000 and 1500 B.C.
They could not build an empire since the hills, valleys and mountains made easy intercourse difficult. Moreover they settled at different times and in different groups which became city states. Greece have about one hundred and fifty city states of which Athens, Sparta and Thebes were the most important

STORY
The story of the Greeks contains four ages which includes:
 The age of the Hero
 The age of the Noble
 The age of the Tyrants
 The age of the Democracy
 The Hellenistic Age

THE AGE OF THE HERO
Heroic age is the earliest age in the history. It was between 2000 B.C when they began to arrive in separate group invaded Greece and killed the last king. A large part of the story of the heroic period is made up of beautiful and interesting stories of the great men and early heroes. Some of the stories are concerned with the conquest of the Minoan colonies and city notably troy. The greatest narrator of these stories or legends was the blind Greek named Homer.
The Greeks specialized on shepherds and later as farmers. They settled in a small city states and were ruled by monarch.
THE AGE OF THE NOBLE
It was the next age. After they settled down and the city states emerged. The classes of the rich and poor started. The few rich became the noble and ruled over the poor. The poor people wanted protection from the land owning nobles and they started complaining, and the sole rulers emerged and ruled in place of the nobles. They were called Tyrants.
THE AGE OF TYRANTS
A tyrant was a bad and unjust ruler. They were nice and did wonderful works. They were the poor friends. One such tyrant was Peisistratus who built the Parthenon in honor of the goddess, Athena and employed Phidias to decorate the temple with paintings and statues. The Greeks had a dislike for tyranny. After the death of Peisistratus, his children, Hipparchus and Hippias, were forbidden to rule after him. Hipparchus was killed and Hippias fled.
THE AGE OF DEMOCRACY
It is otherwise called the classical age. In Athens it was known as the golden age of Pericles. Pericles was one of their greatest leaders
THE HELLENISTIC AGE
Alexander the Great began the age. He tried to spread Greeks ideas throughout the Mediterranean world but all his efforts were to no avails. When he died his empire was broken into pieces and the Roman ruled over the Greeks.

COLONISATION AND TRADE
After working as shepherds and farmer. They started trade, sail on the sea and found colonies.
They soon became great sailors and Greeks idea, customs and tools spread very widely. Their colonies and trade extended to as far as Britain, France and Spain.

The Greeks worshipped gods. Some of the gods are:
• Zeus (god of the sky)
• Apollo (god of archery)
• Nike (goddess of victory)
• Iris (goddess of the rainbow)
• Hermes (god of the roadways)
• Aphrodite (goddess of love and beauty)
• Nemesis (god of revenge) etc
