Have you ever actually looked up how many songs there are about wild horses? It seems to be a strong theme in music. Horses have always been viewed as quite majestic creatures.
Recently when I went to see my friend Shelley she told me about her years of horse riding. She was quite a big name in the horse sector and she's a good story teller.
"Wild Horses" - Rolling Stones - Cover by Chiara Kilchling
This song has been covered like a gazillion times! I like the Bush version too
She had a horse many years back that was a thorough-bred race horse. Not the kind of pony you can jump on and just go for a trot around the block on. Nope, he was a trusty steed with an addiction to speed. They had a really close bond and she used to take him down to the beach bare-back. Where the line in the sand moves from soft and fluffy to compacted and wet...that's where she would hunker down on his neck, tuck her feet and let go of the reins.
He waited for that split second where he knew that it was now all him. He was in charge and he could just let it all go.
I really, really like this next one right here...
I'm five generations of blazing a trail
Through barbed wire valleys and overgrown dells
I'm barefoot and bareback and born tough as nailsI'm four-fifths of reckless and one-fifth of jack
I push like a daisy through old sidewalk cracks
Yeah, my kinda crazy's still running its courses with
Wildflowers and wild horses
She explained it like this
It was a beautiful moment they shared together. He had her and they had this stunning trust with and for each other.
I've never ridden on horseback. Was it Sherlock Holmes that said "They're dangerous at both ends and... crafty in the middle." but if there was anyone that could convince me to get on one, it would probably be her. Her story moved me and gave these songs more expression and relevance at the time. I figured I'd share some of them with you.
