We walked and trudged the sandy shores
Hands outstretched to shield us from rough sea swells
Feeling trepid in the blinding rain and spray
The smiles that lined the day scorched the fading light
The laughter I heard that made me track back in my mind at night
Changes came and went as the tides pulled at us - IN...OUT...IN
No moment in which we pulled away, just ebbed and flowed
Washing up jetsam and flotsam on the sandy bed
Laid at our sides, discarded detritus
No care for the little pains that stabbed at us
As life carried us from one place to the next
Sailing higher seas and thunder storms that shattered
the sky with sonic booms, shaking the very ground
Collected things along the way, moving forward
Never discounting the past's disgraces
Or fearing the event horizon
But the world went mad somewhere along our travels
Broken systems and ill prepared populace
Blinded by promises of greater tomorrows
Decaying into mayhem
The shore still calls us though,
Can you hear it?
