Having experienced four heavy downpours recently, many people who are into subsistence farming and also the commercial farmers around me have started cultivating the land.

In a bid not to be left behind, mom called me and the discussion was like:

(After exchange of pleasantries)
Mom: ihe mji kpoóñù bú gbaaruu nde ifu akusigboola ihé ruu ubi waa. Ndaa mgbe I ya bia Lee marunuum nkem a Anya, Ka nwoo ike iso ibem kua ihe?
(The reason I'm calling is because most persons have finished cultivating their farms. When will you come and take a look at my own, so that I can join others in planting?)

Emjoe: Akama ama, ihe ndi gbaghariwa dúú m ukwu ruu Hu.
(I don't know yet, I have a lot going on my head at the moment).

Shortly after the call, I couldn't help but feel restless for not having the means to hire a paid labourer to assist with the farming this time. I decided to go and do it by myself as I used to before I left home.

It's actually a small garden where she grows vegetables and farm snails 🐌 around the plantain plantation which saw a heavy blow by recent windstorm leaving just a few plantains standing.

You can see the process in the video below.

Meanwhile, it served as a nice exercise for me after all.

I took some scent leaves out to prevent damaging them.

Shortly after starting the work. I made a long ridge to avoid running water eroding the area.

Before the start of the work.

After the whole exercise, there's this joy that came to me and I was really happy I could assist my aging parents despite not staying with them anymore.

What's your Farming experience like?
