Today stress and other associated disorders such as depression and anxiety have become the leading cause of work disability worldwide according to WHO (2021) and even depression is now a worldwide public health problem and the second leading cause of death. You may think that this is a bit exaggerated but in reality it is much more complex than we all imagine. Depression comes into our lives in two ways, one as an effect of an event that changes our daily routine disrupting our existence as in the case of chronic diseases, sudden deaths of our loved ones, natural disasters and events that change our lives and even sentimental relationships when they come to an end we get into a state of depression that is considered temporary because once we have managed to assimilate and overcome the event everything in our lives returns to normal.

The other type of depression, the unwanted one, is the one that takes over our mind and little by little condemns us to a state of anxiety, sadness and suffering. That depression is the one that arises when we turn our life into a race and it is that depression that ends it. When we focus on seeing life as a race we want to accelerate the processes in such a way that we never have time to enjoy a moment with our loved ones, those moments that are necessary to connect and achieve balance in our life. When we see life as a race it is because we focus on taking on too many things at once and commit ourselves to accomplish tasks that in a normal 24-hour day are not possible to accomplish but that we are, convinced that even at the cost of our own health, we can achieve.

When we run through life we do not have time to appreciate the fundamental and valuable things that happen to us every day, to value the small miracles and especially to value the miracle of our life. We run through life determined to achieve more and more economically, without thinking that perhaps, when the time comes for us to say goodbye to this earthly plane, none of us will have enjoyed what we have obtained because we will have everything without time for anything. In the same way it happens with friends and family, we go running accumulating people as if they were objects that once they are there we do not look at them again because we do not have time for it. While it is true that we all must fulfill certain functions in our lives, it is also true that each of our actions should serve to enrich and make our life a wonderful journey or walk and not a race.

This is how we find ourselves in the middle of many paths and it is enough for us to choose one that is pleasant for us where we can be in balance, not everything is work and not everything is leisure, but balance is necessary. Everything begins and ends in ourselves and if we neglect ourselves by running against time we will be perhaps gaining some economic things, maybe, but we will be losing along the way people, things and situations that deserved to be valued by us in addition to accumulate stress, anxiety and open the door to depression. So don't run through life, as the saying goes: "from the races, only tiredness remains".
