Even until last semester, I was totally afraid of making so called failures. I did not even attempt to use any other mediums other than paints. I have never imagined myself using other materials with paints either. Then recently, I realized the way I work on my painting was limiting myself a lot in many ways. Now I cannot understand why I never experimented with other mediums but I do not regret it because recent exploration has given me a valuable lesson with various challenges and exciting moments of potential possibilities.
This work is 24 by 36 inch and I used fabric, acrylic and oil paints on canvas. Harmonizing the use of fabric/pattern and paints on surface was quite challenging but it was definitely worth giving a try.
This work is only small part of 36 by 36 inch canvas and this was done in first layer. I used coloured-gesso as background and mostly liquid acrylic (gloss medium, water and acrylic). After figuring out the right ratio of liquid acrylic (gloss medium, water and acrylic), the liquid paints created unexpected patterns which are surprisingly beautiful yet very abstract as they flow within each other.
This work is the same canvas as the above one (36 by 36 inch). For this blue layer, I used spray to cover the most areas to hide and expose the textures that are coming through underneath the surface. It is still in progress at the moment and I cannot guarantee yet which will be the last layer of this painting going to be but I am going to keep layering on and on.
