Atinuke lived with her grandmother in Igbaye, osun state right from when she was born. She only saw her mother once in a while, she was told her mother lived faraway in cotonou so she could make a living, as she grew up her mother's visit to Igbaye stopped, she began to see her only once in 3 years or more. But her grandmother struggled to raise her, she attended a primary school close to their house and Atinuke was a very brilliant girl, in fact she was the perfect example of beauty with brains, everyone who came to patronize her grandmother(her grandmother sold corn and other petty things to make ends meet)would always give her a token out of admiration, she graduated from primary school and was given admission into a government secondary school which was a bit far from their home, her grandmother couldn't afford transport fare so she had to walk miles to get to school but this didn't stop her from retaining her position at the top of the class, Atinuke had a promising future, but she had a weakness, she loved material things, everything flashy and glittering, but all that glitters aren't gold and happiness can't come from things. Her friend;Amope was never content and contentment is one source of happiness.
Atinuke began to make friends with people she saw with the latest in the fashion world and with the guys she saw spending, little by little she began to drop in her academics, she managed to be among the top 10, she was just about acquiring and acquiring things. she graduated from secondary school and gained admission almost immediately into the university, but her grandmother was incapacitated and asked her to wait a year or 2 so they could both work to gather money for her to go to school, but Atinuke was impatient, she was concerned that people coming behind her will now be ahead of her. Her impatience heightened, unfortunately she had a friend who adviced her to go out of her way to go to school by collecting money from guys who She'll swindle by promising to date them or pretending to date them, well it worked she did this for 4 till she graduated, her grandmother was not happy with all this but Atinuke didn't care anymore, this marred her relationship with her grandmother, they never saw eye to eye and not too long she left home to stay alone and while in school she met a guy, and his "richness" was the main thing that drew her attention to him, they got married immediately after her service, but the joy and happiness wasn't there she had the latest car, clothes and enough money but there was no joy, that was when she realized she was wrong all along
Happiness can't come from owning things,it comes from being content with either the little you have or as much as you have.
Contentment is a source of happiness on its own, some friends should be kept at an arms length they are lethargic to your journey in life, their own future is blurry and they want to make others like that too, don't break long relationship for a new one, anything can happen. Be content!
