Nowadays, it is quite difficult to find someone who you can last a lifetime with. Someone who can accept every little quirks you have. Someone that can stand by you any time of any day. However, when you find someone that you are sure of and deserving of your love, know that there are two recipes for a healthy relationship that you should ponder.
Patience
What is lacking nowadays in any relationship is patience. When there is a misunderstanding between us and our partner, we tend to resort to giving up the relationship. The result? Heart ache and many what ifs after. There are times when our partner will not respond in a way in which is pleasing to us, but this does not mean we have to take it so personally. Being patient also equals to understanding your partner's situation. Maybe something happened in his work; maybe there was a fight between his family; or maybe he is going through some personal problems that he is not yet ready to open up.
Patience can go a long way. Always slow down, take a deep breath and analyze your partner's situation. How can you be of help. Keep in mind the saying, Never assume unless otherwise stated, because jumping into conclusions can make your partner feel attacked and judged without hearing his side out. The best thing to do is give your partner some time and let them know that you will be there for them when they are ready to talk.
Honesty
Honesty is what everyone longs for in a relationship. Whether good or bad, being honest is a recipe in a healthy relationship that needs to be establish first hand. A person needs to know that they can trust their mate because it builds a zone of safety and comfortableness around them.
However, being honest is not a ticket to making mistakes over and over again. Yes, you're honest to your partner that you made a mistake but you did it again and told your partner about it. Isn't that also a sign of an unhealthy relationship? What is healthy however, is realizing that the mistake committed is a mistake and will not be made again, either you or your partner. Once you both realize the gravity in being a relationship, always strive to be a better person.
Entering in a relationship should be made with care and understanding that it will not only be your thoughts, ideas and mistakes that will matter but also with the person you're with. Once you're already in a relationship, always remember the two recipes for a healthy relationship - patience and honesty.
