Hey Y'all! 👋

Hello Sketchbook community, how's it going? Welcome back to emanate artworx! Today I'd like to share with you some recent exercises I've done as a way to improve my speed and accuracy on portraits and landscapes.

Inspiration
A couple months ago, I started doing regular sketch drills with pencil and paper to get faster at making digital portraits. I use the same [reference site](reference.sketchdaily.net/en] each time so the "which reference to use?" dilemma is a non-factor.

After doing many, many of these pencil sketching drills, I felt ready to take my efforts to the next level to perform timed color studies. Again, this idea came with the hopes of making better portraits ("better" is faster and more accurate in this case).

I had a goal of completing a total of four (4) color studies in the month of September, and actually surpassed it to complete five (5) studies as of 29 September.

Process

Sunset 1 hour 16 minutes

Cactus, 1 hour 8 minutes

Straw Hat, 54 minutes

Eggplant, 1 hour 17 minutes

Kitty Cat, 5 minutes

Reflection
A couple of these turned out better than I thought they would! The eggplant study and the kitty are probably my favorites out of the bunch. I love a good still life, and the cat is just cute. :-D

The cactus patch was rather difficult until I realized midway through its structure was easy to read once I noticed how the plant grows- with a bigger main paddle shape near the ground and smaller branch-like appendages that come off those main parts. The next cactus will be easier to maneuver.

Oh, and I skipped the pencil drawing step on all these color studies as well, just to see how it went without it (maybe faster?).
