I am Mopelola, I live somewhere in Africa with my father and stepmom. My father took her in marriage a few years after my mom passed and she took good care of me for a few years before she started making her own children for my father.
When she had her first child I was still favoured a little, she revailed her true self when her second child turned four. She called me to her room one day after our dad had gone to work then called saying Mope!,Mope!,Mope!! then she asked how many times did I call you? I said three times ma.
Then she said from today moving forward I don't ever want you to pick things before Kolapo my son because he is the man of the house after his father and Kemi is that understood she shouted while I responded saying yes ma shaking like a jelly fish. That day, my heart sank and I missed my late mum. Let's call that my first betrayal.
Last summer, I went to visit my grandmother on my mother's side and she gave me a roaster chicken when I was returning home. The roster was not that old to be eaten so I single handedly took care of it till it was old enough to be eaten but I never wanted it to be killed because I have grown to like it.
One Friday, my step mom killed and prepared a good pot of soup from it. I was heartbroken but I looked forward to enjoying the meal anyways. Food was served in the evening and I got to the table only for me to meet only the head and the two legs of the chicken left. Oh I felt betrayed that the betrayal could be felt on my skin but there was nothing I could do or no one to report to because my dad was away as usual.
I guess she felt my anger because unlike her she came to me in the kitchen when I was doing the dishes. She asked Mope, why didn't you eat your portion of the chicken? I answered saying I never knew those parts were left for me, I thought it was meat for Saul our dog. After giving her a piece of my mind through response she hissed and went to her room and I never saw her again till the following day acting like nothing happened the previous day.
