Cats do tend to have a second home. In the UK, people think they may be lost but they're just looking for somewhere to call in. Having said that, check everywhere, any cupboards and outer buildings so they're not trapped anywhere.

By the way, cats shouldn't be given cow's milk etc as their stomach cannot tolerate it. Water or cat's milk are best.
