We called in at the Beer and Bean Coffee House today at Buxton, in Derbyshire, which is an old Spa town. There'd been frost on the ground this morning so we needed to get warm. We've never been to this place before. Food wise, it was just toasties, sharing boards, appertisers, and waffles, so we just decided on a drink. The food did look excellent, though, but I decided to wait until I got home to have something more substantial.
It looked quite cosy inside with nice warm lighting and a random bicycle hung on the wall.
There was a small upstairs seating area as well. It was confusing as the barista looked familiar. It turned out he had worked at another cafe we have frequented. I've also noticed that people who work at coffee houses tend to have great tattoos. I love tattoos and it's so good society has moved on so much. In my day, you couldn't join the police force if you had tattoos. If you went for any job you'd have to cover them up. Thank goodness things have changed.
We decided on a machiatto, which is an espresso coffee with just a splash of milk, usually foamed and a latte. The machiatto drink is only small, but I found it tasted stronger, which made it feel as though I'd drunk more for some reason. It was just as filling. Most coffee houses will offer you a biscoff biscuit. I expect they are the cheapest but all food is gratefully received!
As well as speciality coffee, there are cocktails and european craft beer on the menu, free WiF, it's dog friendly with live music at night. In fact, I think we were actually sitting on the stage!
It was a lovely quirky little coffee house/bar, and the staff were very welcoming. I'm glad we paid them a visit.
