We had a walk around the village of Baslow with its lovely stone cottages. It is a good starting point to walk and explore the local countryside nearby. It wasn’t actually walking weather as it was raining yet again, so today, we just went to see all the little historical parts of the village.
It is a village that we've driven through many times but never really stopped for a closer look. I liked the name of this cottage.
Some of the cottages are holiday lets as it is quite a popular holiday destination.
We walked over the old stone bridge which is classed as a Grade I Listed Building, which lies over the River Derwent.
You can see the metal staples that hold the stone blocks together on the bridge.
There were recesses in the side that provide safety for people from the traffic while walking over the bridge.
At the end of the bridge, there was a small toll house. You can see the holes in the side where money would have changed hands to pass over the bridge.
St Anne’s Church goes back to the 13th century. It was a pretty graveyard, but it's a shame they can't do anything about the gravestones that are falling down.
There was a few little shops in the village. No Smoking, No Matches, No Lights Allowed! It makes you wonder what has happened in this shop??
There was also an old iconic red telephone box which was a it on the winky side. Most of the old phone boxes are used for something else such as micro libraries or a place to sell fruit and vegetables in. This one looks as though it is still in operation but card payment only.
It was a lovely little village to gave an explore and had some interesting parts to it. I expect there is more to find.
