I started in the quaint village of Bourton-on-the-Water, often referred to as the "Venice of the Cotswolds" due to the River Windrush running through it. As I strolled along the riverbank, I admired the iconic low stone bridges and watched families feeding ducks and swans. The serenity of the scene was just enchanting.
Continuing my walk, I made my way to Lower Slaughter, which is just a short path away. This village is known for its stunning countryside views and historic buildings. I paused by the old mill, where the sound of water gently flowing over the wheel added to the idyllic atmosphere. It was so peaceful there—exactly what you’d envision in a storybook!
Along the way, I met a lovely couple, both in their seventies, who were enthusiastic about sharing their knowledge of the area. They told me about the local history, including tales of the wool trade that once boomed in these villages. They also shared their favorite walking routes and even suggested a hidden path that leads to a beautiful viewpoint overlooking the hills. It’s always nice to encounter friendly locals who are passionate about their surroundings!
As I looped back towards Bourton, I stopped at a quaint tea shop. The aroma of freshly baked scones and brewed tea wafted through the air, compelling me to indulge. I had a delicious cream tea while sitting outside, taking in the beautiful scenery and reflecting on a day well spent.
This walk was a reminder of how much history and beauty there is to explore in my own country. It’s amazing how much you can learn and appreciate with just a few hours out in nature. I can’t wait for my next adventure
